I'm still using CS with the original drive, but I left the new drive configured for Master. The documentation with the drive said that should work - CS on one IDE channel, but not on the other. I think your are having a cable problem. You need to use the Cable Select cable that came with your computer, not the one supplied by Plextor. You need to set your new burner as cable select or CS.

The end postion on the drive is Master, the second postion is the Slave. I install mine the way the install guide does with the ROM in the first bay, and burner in the second.
